Nan Fung Group wins Social Value ‘Making Core’ Award 2024

London – 29 October, 2024: Nan Fung Group (“Nan Fung” or the “Group”) won the ’Making Core’ category at the 2024 Social Value Awards, hosted by Social Value Portal. The category judged applicants based on how an organisation made a notable shift in their culture and a discernible change in their governance to support social value transformation.

The Group and Endurance Land, a member of Nan Fung Group, have worked closely to achieve the prioritisation of social value at a global level. Endurance Land’s social value initiatives played a major part in the Group’s overall cultural and governance transformations.

The Group disclosed its social value performance for the first time in its 2023/24 Sustainability Report, highlighting the social impact measurement approaches we adopted in different business locations. Over £939,000 worth of social value was delivered or facilitated by Endurance Land in 2022-24 through local procurement, employment, and community programmes in London, quantified using TOMs System and verified by an independent consultancy Social Value Portal.

Endurance Land conducted Local Needs Analysis (“LNA”) on two of the Group’s most prominent development projects in London, 99 City Road and Regent Quarter, to assess the deprivation level and needs of the local community to devise social value action plans to respond to specific local needs. We recognised that regular in-depth stakeholder engagement gives us credible insights into local challenges and opportunities and to tailor targeted social value strategy.

“Winning the ‘Making Core’ award is a testament to the Group’s commitment to social value at a global level. By initiating Group-wide impact mindset capacity building and extending our social value approach across business value chains, we have made tremendous strides in prioritizing social value in our everyday practices, social value initiatives, and within the core of our governance structure. We’re incredibly proud to be the first company in Asia to win this award and a pioneer in the region.” – Vanessa Cheung, Group Managing Director of Nan Fung Group and Founder of The Mills.

“It’s incredibly inspiring to collaborate so closely with the Group’s social value team, exploring how social value can be best integrated across the organisation. Winning the ‘Making Core’ award reflects the Group’s dedication to sharing best practices and continuous exploration of how to embed a governance structure that prioritizes meaningful social value creation and drive impactful, lasting change. I’m tremendously excited to watch the Group continues to be a leader in the social value sector.” – Annie Kuenning, Sustainability and Content Manager at Endurance Land.

Additionally, Endurance Land was acknowledged as part of Islington Council’s shortlisting in the “Excellence in Planning” category. Islington Council’s application referenced the Group’s 99 City Road scheme at Old Street Roundabout as their case study for planning projects committed to prioritise social value delivery. Islington Council and Endurance Land would continue to collaborate closely to deliver a best-in-class commercial building that enables local community and businesses to fully participate in the opportunities presented by that building, not just in the construction phase but throughout its lifetime.

“The agreement at 99 City Road has gone far beyond ‘business as usual’ for both the developer and the council.  Recognising the benefits of the ‘people’ infrastructure around this groundbreaking development, Endurance Land and the council have set out a ten-year collaborative programme to ensure that this is a world-class office space – attracting investors and innovation from across the globe – while still having deep roots into Islington’s communities, opening up new opportunities for jobs and supply chain, and transforming lives.” – Islington Council’s “Excellence in Planning” application submission.
